Squirrels are funny and playful, but always keep in mind that they are wild animals. Watch and enjoy them, always approach them slowly and carefully and never try to grab or pick one up. Many will scratch or bite when they feel scared or threatened. If you see one in trouble, try to protect it from predators without touching it and call your local animal control.

One Small Step for Tiny

I peeked my head out of the nest and looked around. The light hurt my eyes.

I had just opened them for the first time a few days ago. They are still learning how to work and the light makes me squint. I squeaked for my mama and listened for her answer. I could only hear the sound of those things that mama called ‘birds’. She told me that they steal food from squirrels, so I knew that they wouldn’t be any help. My tummy was growling louder now so I slowly put my paw out of the nest.

My little feet have been in a nest all of my life, when I step out of the nest I don’t know how to make them grab the tree. I try to hold on, but I’m just not that good at it. Then, the worst thing ever happened...

I fell.

  2. I adore squirrels so much! I often feed them and say hi to them when I pass them by. The ones from my area are pretty friendly, I'm a fan of squirrels forever!

I hope he didn't injure himself too badly :( Poor little guy.
